Horsehead Nebula

The Horsehead Nebula is a small dark nebula in the constellation Orion that sits approximately 1375 light years from Earth. The faint nebula is only 2.5 light years across and difficult to see without the use of astrophotography gear. The darkness of the Horsehead is caused mostly by thick dust blocking the light of the stars behind it. This image is taken using only a Hydrogen-Alpha filter for a total of 2.5 hours of exposure time.

After seeing a picture of this nebula in his Astronomy Magazine at age 10, Micah knew that one day he wanted to capture this and all the other galactic wonders above our heads.
